North Howden Station http://north-howden-station.fotopic.net/ 6 rows en-gb 60 Station Masters Sitting Room http://north-howden-station.fotopic.net/c1651830.html This is a collection of photos charting the restoration of the former station masters sitting room. This part of the station was suffering from major damp from the roof, which ment that we had to re-render the outside and take the plaster inside down to bare brick and start again. However the damp had damaged a 3 meter section of the original cornice which had to be renewed, we managed to find the original poach door but 6 inches had been taken of the bottom so had to get this lenghend. We would have liked to put the fire place back in but due to the chimney been taken down in 1983-84 this was discounted at the moment, we may try to get permission to re-instate this at a later date as the wood panaling is only covering the area where the fire was and is not bricked up. The floor has sanded up a treat having six coats of varnish. The inside and outside of this room is painted into the colours it was in the 1960's of Oriental blue and Ivory on the outside and Eau De Nil , Cream and white on the inside. Having gone this far we have fitted enamal lampshades which are original 1920's and reproduction bakalite light switches.
